Meet Eric!

Dr. Eric Schansberg is a Professor of Economics at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany where he has been on faculty for 16 years. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Texas A&M University. He also holds bachelor degrees in Math and Economics from George Mason University.

Dr. Schansberg is an active writer. His two books on public policy, Turn Neither to the Right nor to the Left: A Thinking Christian’s Guide to Politics and Public Policy (Alertness Books, 2003) and Poor Policy: How Government Harms the Poor (Westview Press, 1996), have received positive press reviews. He has written a wide range of articles—from scholarly research in academic journals to editorial essays in newspapers. His research and writing have focused on applied microeconomics—with a special emphasis on how public policy often harms the poor and the intersection between economics, politics, and religion.

Dr. Schansberg is an evangelical Christian who has led Bible studies for the last 17 years. He is an active member of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY—where he is on the Core Leadership Team for the Men’s Ministry and leads a Sunday School class for young families. He is the author of a Bible study on the book of Joshua and is the co-author of a 21-month Discipleship Curriculum, Thoroughly Equipped. In addition, for the last 10 years, he has been a member of the Board of Directors for Brandon's House—a non-profit organization that provides masters-level counseling to teenagers and their parents.

Eric has been married to Tonia for 13 years and is the proud father of four boys—two by adoption and two the more conventional way: Zachary, Brennan, Joseph, and Daniel. Their family is active in K-TAG—the Kentuckiana Trans-racial Adoption Group.
